Teks report adalah teks yang bertujuan untuk menyampaikan informasi dengan mendeskripsikan sesuatu secara umum, yang meliputi berbagai hal/benda yang ada di alam. Teks report berisi serangkaian fakta yang logis dan bersifat objektif, tanpa ada keterlibatan pribadi penulis.

Struktur Teks Report

1. General Classification, pengantar tentang sesuatu/fenomena yang akan dibahas.
2. Description, menerangkan sesuatu fenomena yang dibahas, meliputi bagian-bagian, kualitas, dan perilaku.

Ciri Bahasa Teks Report

1. Menggunakan simple present tense, kecuali yang dibahas sudah punah menggunakan past tense.
2. Menggunakan action verb dan relating verb seperti is, am, are, look, seem.
3. Menggunakan general nouns seperti orchids, platypus, figure skaters.

Mahogany

In the natural rainforest, Mahogany is a very large canopy tree, sometimes reaching over 150 feet in height, with trunks sometimes more than 6 feet in diameter above a large basal buttress. It is a generally open-crowned tree, with gray to brownish-red fissured bark.

Mahogany is perhaps the most valuable timber tree in the whole of Latin America and has been heavily exploited for most of this century. Mahogany is becoming increasingly rare, and is already extinct in parts of its original range. It is listed as threatened in "Arboles Maderables en Peligro de Extincion en Costa Rica" and is listed in CITES Appendix III.

Mahogany varies from yellowish, reddish, pinkish, or salmon colored when freshly cut, to a deep rich red, to reddish brown as the wood matures with age. Mahogany is fine to medium texture, with uniform to interlocking grain, rangging from straight to wavy of curly. Irregularities in the high luster, with excellent working and finishing characteristics. It responds well to hand and machine tools, has good nailing and screwing properties, and turns and carves superbly.

Mahogany is regarded by many as the world's premier wood for fine cabynetry, highclass furniture, trimming fine boats, pianos and other musical instruments, sculpture, joinery, turnery, figured and decorative veneer, interior trim, and carving.

Teks rumpang adalah kalimat yang tidak lengkap karena ada bagian penting dari teks yang dihilangkan. Saat memilih kata yang tepat untuk melengkapi kalimat, perhatikan hal-hal berikut.

1. Apabila berupa kata benda (noun), perhatikan apakah noun tersebut jamak atau tunggal, countable (dapat dihitung) atau uncountable (tidak dapat dihitung). kemudian sesuaikan dengan kata kerjanya.
2. Apabila berupa kata kerja perhatikan tense kalimat, apakah berbentuk past, future, continuous. Sesuaikan pula dengan subjek kalimat.
3. Apabila berupa kata ganti perhatikan verb yang mengikuti kata ganti tersebut.
4. Apabila berupa kata benda, kata kerja, kata keterangan, atau kata depan yang sesuai untuk melengkapi kalimat, pahamilah makna dan konteks kalimat.
5. Perhatikan makna kalimat dan teks secara keseluruhan.

1. Perhatikan struktur kalimat, apakah kalimat positif, kalimat negatif, atau kalimat tanya.
2. Carilah subjek kalimat, biasanya berupa kata benda.
3. Cari verb kalimat tersebut, perhatikan juga tense yang digunakan.
4. Temukan objek berbentuk noun (jika ada). Perhatikan juga artikel/determiner yang digunakan mengawali noun tersebut.
5. Temukan keterangan waktu apabila ada.

Mengurutkan kalimat acak menjadi paragraf padu dapat dilakukan dengan cara berikut.

1.  Tentukan kalimat pendahuluan yang menjelaskan tentang topik yang dibahas, biasanya menyebutkan nama orang/benda/hal yang akan dibahas.
2. Perhatikan konjungsi (kata hubung).
3. Untuk teks recount dan narrative perhatikan keterangan waktu karena kata ini menunjukkan urutan peristiwa.
4. Untuk teks descriptive, report, procedure, perhatikan pengulangan kata di kalimat berikutnya untuk menunjukkan adanya kaitan dengan kalimat sebelumnya.
5. Perhatikan kalimat penutup. Dalam teks narrative bagian penutup berupa resolusi (penyelesaian).
